Aswang In Davao

I am a Caviteño living and working in Davao. I grew up believing in the paranormal like a typical Caviteño.

Sometime in 2003, I just transferred to a new house in a modest subdivision and living with an officemate. Manny is an outgoing type that usually goes home late in the night or wee hours in the morning. For security purposes, I prefer to double lock the main door and would not mind him waking me up upon his return rather than him using his key. I guess growing up in the metropolis prompted this attitude. So one night he woke me up around 1:00am. He was so drunk that he went straight to his sofa bed. I had the bedroom for myself. He turned on the cassette before retiring to let the music play as he is accustomed to such habit.

As I entered my bedroom, lights from the outside illuminates the surrounding perimeter and my windows are of clear glass, I saw from the adjacent lot which is vacant and a makeshift basketball court of our subdivision, something that I never thought I would see in my entire life. Up on the goal board holding the basketball ring an old lady with white long hair wearing an all black blouse. I couldn't see her lower body part and it seemed that she was suspended in the air. She had fangs and as if she is sniffing the air looking for something. She didn't look that scary at first glance but when I realized what she was it scared me so much that I woke up my officemate so I would have someone who would witness it too. As I went to where my officemate was sleeping, the door closed automatically due to the hydrolic attachments. It made a significant thud and when I looked back at the "thing" she was gone.

The following morning I heard that one of our neighbor who was pregnant was rushed to the hospital around 2:00am and had a miscarriage.

From then on, it solidified my belief in the unknown and the fact that I am living in the province made me realize that I will probably encounter more unexplained experiences. Since then, I am always carrying on me a symbol of my faith like a rosary or crucifix for protection.

Kennedy and the Jelly Donut

The legend goes that Kennedy made a trip to Germany back in the 60′s in an attempt to connect with the German people. While giving a speech in the capital he told the crowd, “Ich bin ein Berliner” or “I am a Berliner”. Apparently though, a “berliner” is also a type of German pastry. Since then numerous stories have circulated claiming that he was practically laughed off stage afterwards. The truth is, however, that that the crowd understood him perfectly and nary a single eyebrow was raised at the statement.

THE HAUNTING AT CONCHA CRUZ DRIVE

Marc, a young man in his late 20s, was cruising inside BF Homes Subdivision in Parañaque City along with his two pals. They were speeding along at about 40 kms/hr on a quartermile long road known to BF homeowners as Concha Cruz Drive. This long stretch of asphalt used to be the venue for drag races among teenagers im the early 80s.

Ronnie, one of Marc's friends riding with him motioned for them to stop. He wanted to relieve himself by the grassy area along the right side of the road. It was nearly midnight, and all was quite as usual. There was not a car in sight.

After Ronnie finished doing his business, the group went back on the road, cruising along Concha Cruz on their way to El Grande Avenue to bring home their friend Jen. About two hundred meters before the nearest intersection, they were surprised when a black sedan pulled up along their right side. It's windows were heavily tinted so that neither Marc nor his friends could see into it. The black car stopped right next to Marc's, obviously spoiling for a drag race. Marc, the son of a race car driver, was just too ready to oblige the unknown challenger.

As both car drivers gunned their engines repeatedly, the three young boys noticed the window of the black car slowly being rolled down. Marc and Jen rolled down their own window to see who they were racing against. What they see inside chilled their blood.

Inside the black sedan, Marc and Jen saw a young man and a young woman, dressed totally in white, their clothes drenched in fresh blood, their ashen faces streaked with blood that seemed to be pouring from head wounds.

Both lay lifeless on their seats, looking like victims of an accident, with their bloodshot eyes staring unseeingly ahead.

Marc immediately stepped on the gas pedal and sped away from the sedan, which remained motionless. When Jen looked back, she saw nothing but pitch darkness, with only the light from a lamppost flickering feebly in the distance.

Lawn Chair Balloon Flight

Like in the movie "Up," stories have been circulating for years of enterprising souls who attached a ton of helium balloons to something and floated up into the atmosphere. The Balloon Boy hoax of a few years ago was a fake-out, but in 1982 a Los Angeles man actually achieved liftoff. Larry Walters attached 45 weather balloons to a lawn chair and flew so high he interfered with air traffic. He was trying to make it to the Mojave Desert, but when he got too high he decided to pop some balloons and come down, only to be immediately arrested.
